Anderson Silva defeats Dan Henderson in UFC 82
Yeah, this is a couple days late, but in possibly one of the most anticipated UFC matchups we have seen in a while, Anderson Silva defeated Dan Henderson by submission in what was a clinical display of striking and BJJ. First, even though Henderson was a little older (37) than Silva (32), he looked good early on with an unorthodox ground game were he was using his hand to close the mouth of Silva and smother his face. Silva clearly looked uncomfortable with this ruthless tactic that I have not seen since a 4th grade wrestling match with my younger brother on the living room floor.
In the end though, Silva was too much for Henderson, he stunned him with a couple powerful strikes before submitting him with almost no time left in the 2nd round by way of rear naked choke.
In case you missed it, here was the submission:
Plus, for super bonus, UFC has finally united the UFC and Pride belts for this weight class, something it has been desperately wanting.
Overall, this was great fight on a night that was otherwise uneventful, but if you missed it, sorry.
Now we get to wait for UFC 83 which will feature Georges St. Pierre vs. Sean Sherk. My money is on St. Pierre to knock Sherk out early, I just don’t think Sherk can handle St. Pierre’s striking, and his BJJ is ruthless. Plus, he is French Canadian, which of course always works in your favor.
