Portly Pitchers & Hefty Hurlers: Top Five Active Fat Pitchers

Published by The Hinge at 6:09 pm under MLB

This picture of Boston ace and Yankee nemesis, Josh Beckett, at spring training serves as a nice reminder that you most certainly do not to be in good shape to be effective on the mound. It also begs the question: if you can let your body go like this and still be an ace, why did Roger Clemens even bother taking steroids? Anyway, here’s the rest of the top five…

C. C. Sabathia — He seems to get bigger (and better) every year. Only a matter of time before it’s revealed that the “CC” stands for “Chili Cheese”.

David Wells — The original fat pitcher never ceases to amaze me that he still has a job. He doesn’t seem to have any work ethic whatsoever, and he still pitched a perfect game. While hungover, no less. I, for one, salute you, Mr. Wells.

Livan Hernandez — He can’t really be related to El Duque, can he? This guy’s built like a Texas housewife. Yet, he continues to throw 200+ innings a year. Plus, he’s got a WS ring. And he can hit, too.

Rod Beck — Yeah, he’s not pitching (or breathing) anymore, but he was such an unathletic looking guy, this list just wouldn’t seem right without him. Besides, I ran out of quality fat starting pitchers.

Feel free to add your favorite porkers.

    The best part about David Wells is that his “out pitch” is a 64 MPH curveball thrown with the same arm motion as a 12 year old little league learning to throw it for the first time.

    Excuse me for joining the party late, however there were a few not mentioned who immediately come to mind;
    Bartolo Colon
    Curt Schilling
    JJ Putz
    And although I am technologically challenged and can’t provide photographic proof - you know who these fat bastards are - and yes, they all make a lot more money then us!
