Why is Joe Buck employed?
For the life of me I cannot determine why Joe Buck is the lead announcer for both MLB and the NFL on Fox. There may not be an uglier case of nepotism since that of medieval European royalty. Now, it would be a lie on my part if I said I had heard Joe Bucks call of Tyree’s catch in Super Bowl XLII. I was too busy yelling like a schoolgirl manly GMen fan. I did, however, watch the replays approximately 14 million times and by viewing number two I was watching with no sound. (And if you are thinking the entire reason for this post is so I can watch highlights of the Giants victory in the SB one more time…well I have no comment). It has been said elsewhere but let me reiterate, Buck could have called paint drying with equal enthusiasm. Let’s compare Buck’s and Marv Albert’s call:
It’s not even close. Buck’s shittiness is not limited to football though. Over in the world of baseball Buck blesses us with his unending bias against NY and its teams, in particular the Mets. Plus we get Buck’s uncomfortable homoerotic tension in the booth with fellow Met hater Tim McCarver which only adds to Buck’s legend. Add all that together, throw in a sprinkle of smug, and you have a recipe for shitty, bland, uninspired crap for almost every major sporting event spouted from televisions across this country.
And Joe…here’s how it is done:
Bonus points for the fantastically shitty Busch beer commercial at the end.

The homoerotic tensions between Buck and McCarver cannot be as bad as they are between Buck and Troy Aikman.
Everytime they show them in the booth it looks like they just finished jerking each other off or they are about to kiss. It makes everyone in the room very uncomfortable.
Here’s a little tip for next football season, as soon as they come on screen yell out “I wanna kiss you” in a drunk Joe Namath voice. Guaranteed laughs!
I’m not going to go into the reasons that I like Joe Buck, but I will say he is a much better baseball commentator than football.
